First Men’s Naked Drawing Group

It was a long week anticipating my first group meeting of the Men’s Naked Drawing Group yesterday afternoon.

I arrived at 12:30 in order to give me enough time to pay for the room space I had booked.  Good thing I did as the clerk had trouble with the printer getting my receipt.

Once that was settled, I proceeded to get my supplies from the car. I had my sketchbook and various drawing materials as well as my easel and acrylic paints.

Not being in the comfort of my own studio where everything is on hand this was going to be quite the experience. I have done Plein Air painting but this was more than simply landscapes.

When I walked in the room I was surprised to see another participant already there. We introduced ourselves and started to set up the platform and chairs and any tables that might be needed and waited until ten past one making sure everyone had arrived. I locked the door and we got undressed.

We did about 8 three minute poses to get started.

One member is a seasoned model for Life Classes and naturally he did the final long pose. We moved the platform and chair closer to the windows capturing the best light.

I had a great spot in front of the model and proceeded to quickly outline the model on my prepared canvas of dark brown and burnt sienna.

Once the two hours of the long pose was done (there was a break in between) we got a picture of the model to finish later. We reviewed the works and started to pack our things and be on our way.

I got got a few pictures of the pose I was in and some sketches and my painting that I will finish in my studio.  Naturally, not everyone wanted their picture taken and I respect that

I look forward to our next session and I hope everyone does as well.

I am visual artist from Nova Scotia. I have been approached by New-York based artist Shungaboy http://www.shungaboy.com/ to start a chapter of a Men’s Naked Drawing Group here in Halifax.

As much as I have loved sketching from Life Models and the very idea of sketching in the nude is unheard of in Halifax.   The images shown are courtesy of Shungaboy from the New-York based group.  Life Model and artists in their natural state.

MNDG is a sketch group for male artists, where artists take turns posing for each other. Our focus is to draw the male figure and depict masculinity in an open-minded, non-sexual positive nature not found in traditional drawing groups. When both the model and the artist are naked, they are on equal footing, encouraging openness and camaraderie.

Naturist groups in the Halifax area are more than welcome regardless of their drawing skill level.  It’s a good place to interact and meet new folk.

This is a men only art group based on a global network of Art Studios located in Vancouver and Toronto in Canada and sponsored by NMDG-NYC and future event promotion with http://swoonfineart.com/ based in Halifax.

My guidelines will vary slightly on certain aspects but keeping the core of the group intent intact.

The first group meetup is Saturday May 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Findlay Centre in Dartmouth 26 Elliot Street Dartmouth NS.

If you or someone you know is interested in participating in an all- male-naturist drawing group regardless of their artistic skills please contact me via this page or at fabienb723@yandex.com

If successful, I hope to be able to get Art Shows based on the works coming from this group.  And through this blog I will bring updates on the groups progress and showing that this is a body positive, non-judgmental, non-sexual group.

Thank you.
